Several things that affect the aging of Fluoro Rubber o-rings

(A) Oxygen: Oxygen in fluoro rubber o-rings occurs free radical chain reaction with rubber molecules, molecular chain cracking, or excessive cross-linking, resulting in the function of fluoro rubber o-rings changes. Oxidation is one of the important reasons for the aging of Fluoro Rubber o-rings.

(B) Ozone: Ozone is much more chemically active and damaging than oxygen, and it also cracks the molecular chains, but the effect of ozone on rubber varies with the deformation of the rubber. When acting on the deformed rubber (mainly unsaturated rubber), there is a crack in the direction of the action of stress, which is called "ozone cracking", and when acting on the deformed rubber, the only oxide film is formed on the surface without cracking.

(C) Heat: The advancing temperature may cause the thermal cracking or thermal crosslinking of the fluoroelastomer o-rings. But the substrate action of heat is still activation. The progressive oxidation rate and the activation oxidation reaction, and then the acceleration rubber oxidation reaction rate, this is a universal aging appearance -- thermal oxidation aging.

(D) Light: The shorter the wave, the greater the energy. Fluoro Rubber o-rings are damaged by higher-energy ultraviolet rays. In addition to directly causing the cracking and cross-linking of rubber molecular chains, UV radiation causes the formation of free radicals in rubber due to the absorption of light energy, which initiates and accelerates the oxidation chain reaction. External light acts as a heat source. Another advantage of light (as opposed to heat) is that it lives mainly on the surface of Oak. The specimen with High Gel content will have a network crack on both sides, which is called "light outer layer crack".
